*TRIGGER WARNING- SEXUAL VIOLENCE*

I'm tired

I'm tired of people telling me to watch what I wear

Be careful, let's not invite any unwanted stares

I'm tired of being wary of where I go

I learnt to carry weapons since I was 8 years old

"Your age has nothing to do with the way they see you,

you being a girl is reason enough", I was told.

I'm tired because I have to think twice

About how I behave in public

Am I talking too loud?

Laughing too loud?

But the thing is, even if I don't do any of these,

you still find me at fault,

I'm a woman after all!

I'm tired of fighting for things you take for granted,

While you don't have to lift a finger for the privileges you're handed,

The bias you learnt started at home.

You saw your comforts being put before your sister's,

Your ambition before hers,

And so, naturally you think women were made

For servitude

I'm tired now, of hearing, countless times,

That a girl like me was found dead,

Brutally raped by a guy who thought it was his right

And duty to put her in her place

I'm so tired of your attitude that now I am WIDE AWAKE!
